The Samba was originally used as a <strong>fishing boat<\/strong> in the <strong>\u201cNoordzee\u201d<\/strong>. It was bought by an American and he sailed it to Miami. A couple of years later, a native of the Galapagos bought it and sailed it to the <strong>archipelago<\/strong> where it is now used as a <strong>cruise ship<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>First of all, I think we should not call this a \u201ccruise\u201d because this word is associated with big ships cruising around the Caribbean Islands with thousands of people onboard entertaining themselves. Instead, The Samba looks more like a <strong>\u201csea safari\u201d<\/strong> where<strong> comfort onboard<\/strong> is less important than the <strong>activities and experiences you will have<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The <strong>Samba activities were very important<\/strong> and from 6:00 AM \u2013 6:00 PM we were enjoying our time <a href=\"https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/blog\/galapagos\/snorkeling-vs-diving-in-the-galapagos-islands\/\"><strong>snorkeling<\/strong><\/a>, <strong>hiking<\/strong>, or just<strong> watching nature<\/strong>. The boat is kind of small with room for <strong>14 guests and 8 crew members<\/strong> but the atmosphere and activities were <strong>absolutely amazing!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"samba-galapagos-cruise-experience-onboard\">Samba Galapagos Cruise Experience Onboard<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The stay on the boat itself is <strong>very interesting<\/strong>, 14 individuals and you all live the same schedule. Sometimes you even get up at 5:00 AM to be ready for the <strong>first activity that begins at 6:00 AM<\/strong> when the sun gets up.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Cultures and ages mix on board<\/strong>. Youngest 23 and traveling alone, oldest 80-year-old lady traveling with her daughter from the <strong>USA<\/strong>. Four couples; mid-60s from the <strong>UK<\/strong>, end 20s and begin 30s from <strong>Germany<\/strong>, <strong>Switzerland<\/strong>, and the <strong>Netherlands<\/strong>. His family owns the <strong>Samba<\/strong>. Juan Manuel has a <strong>background in biology and nature education<\/strong> and he taught us a lot about the different evaluations of the <strong>flora and fauna<\/strong> we found.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>The guide is essential at tours<\/strong> and especially at a cruise where you spend 8 days. He (or she) makes your <strong>experience relevant<\/strong> because a <strong>plant, animal, or landscape<\/strong> can mean so much if you are taught about its <strong>background, development, and importance<\/strong> in the ecosystem.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In this case, there were<strong> 7-8 crew members on board <\/strong>among the captain, engineer, panga captain, cook, etc. The first night they all introduce themselves to the group. Then, they make a <strong>welcome toast<\/strong> and mark the beginning of a <strong>great journey<\/strong>. The last night they come to officially say goodbye and you\u2019ve got the time to speak and tell them about your <strong>experience<\/strong>.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"food-onboard-schedule\">Food Onboard &amp; Schedule<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The food onboard was <strong>delicious!<\/strong> All three meals we had sitting on the two long tables in the main cabin:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Breakfast<\/strong> always includes fruits, yogurt, toasts, eggs, cheese, salami, and vegetables.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then, for <strong>lunch<\/strong>, (the main meal of the day in Ecuador) we had a soup, main course, and a dessert. The main course is always served with a couple of bowls on the tables with two types of vegetables, one type of fish or meat and rice, pasta or potatoes.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally, the <strong>diner<\/strong> consists of a main course with a dessert.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>There was a <strong>vegetarian passenger<\/strong> onboard and a passenger who was<strong> allergic to gluten<\/strong>, this <strong>wasn\u2019t a problem for the cook<\/strong>, every day they ate just as good as the rest of the group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Every night the guide gives you a <strong>briefing<\/strong> about what you will do the day after. He gives a <strong>small PowerPoint presentation<\/strong> and sometimes he <strong>recaps<\/strong> what you have seen for the day. There is a whiteboard in the cabin where the schedule is written down. You can find <strong>every day\u2019s schedule<\/strong> there.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Samba has <strong>two different itineraries<\/strong> around the <strong>Galapagos islands.<\/strong> The <strong>Northern islands itinerary<\/strong> (Genovesa, Floreana, Isabela, and Fernandina) and the <strong>Southern\/Eastern islands itinerary<\/strong> (the one I did).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"day-to-day-samba-galapagos-cruise-notes\">Day to Day Samba Galapagos Cruise Notes<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Below you can find my brief notes of <strong>every site<\/strong> while I was on board the <strong>Samba Galapagos Cruise<\/strong> experience:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 1: Arrival at the Samba<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>All the guests are picked up by the guide at the airport and are taken to the highlands to visit <strong>Chato Ranch<\/strong>. There you will find the <strong>great land tortoises<\/strong>. All spaces on the Samba are very <strong>small<\/strong> but you will <strong>get used to it really fast<\/strong>. Especially when you go to bed the first night you have to get acquainted with the small spaces. The bedroom is about <strong>3,5 m2<\/strong> and the private bathroom about <strong>2 m2<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 2: Floreana Island<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In the morning we had a panga ride and spotted the <strong>Floreana<\/strong> <strong>Mockingbird<\/strong>. There are four types of Mockingbirds at the <strong>Galapagos<\/strong> and they all have the same genes, but because of the different life conditions, they have <strong>evolved<\/strong> over time. For example, the <strong>Espanola Mockingbird<\/strong> has a bigger beak and longer feet because it has to <strong>walk longer distances<\/strong> and <strong>dig deeper<\/strong> to get<strong> fresh water<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1600\" height=\"840\" src=\"https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/why-galapagos-is-worth-visiting-1.jpg\" alt=\"Why Galapagos is worth visiting\" class=\"wp-image-44863\" style=\"object-fit:cover;width:1000px;height:667px\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/why-galapagos-is-worth-visiting-1.jpg 1600w, https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/why-galapagos-is-worth-visiting-1-300x158.jpg 300w, https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/why-galapagos-is-worth-visiting-1-150x79.jpg 150w, https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/why-galapagos-is-worth-visiting-1-768x403.jpg 768w, https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/why-galapagos-is-worth-visiting-1-1536x806.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/why-galapagos-is-worth-visiting-1-945x496.jpg 945w, https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/12\/why-galapagos-is-worth-visiting-1-600x315.jpg 600w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1600px) 100vw, 1600px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">Floreana Island Excursion<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>After that, in the mid-morning, we hike to the <strong>Flamingo Lagoon<\/strong> and then we hiked to the <strong>Baroness Lookout<\/strong>.&nbsp;We also visited the <strong>post office bay<\/strong> where, since old times, the inhabitants use the post barrel to <strong>send and receive letters<\/strong>. Over time, it became a <strong>tradition<\/strong> that all tourists leave a postcard, and you can check if there is one for your hometown. If so, you take the postcard or letter and deliver it personally to the addressee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 3: Espanola Island<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>We took a long hike of about 4 hours on <strong>Espa\u00f1ola Island<\/strong>. There, we had the chance to spot <strong>Albatross Pairs, Albatross Chick, Lava Rocks, and Nasca Boobies<\/strong>. Definitely, the biodiversity in Galapagos will leave you speechless.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 4: San Cristobal \u2013 Kicker Rock &amp; Punta Pitt<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>The next day we <strong>snorkeled<\/strong> with whitetip, blacktip, and Galapagos sharks at <strong>Kicker Rock<\/strong>. Also, we got the chance to swim with a sea lion at the beautiful <strong>Golden Beach<\/strong> of <strong>Punta Pitt<\/strong>. There, we saw three types of boobies:<strong> Blue-Footed, Red-Footed, and Nasca Boobies<\/strong>. On that day, we were lucky enough to be<strong> surrounded by dolphins<\/strong>. It was a <strong>unique experience<\/strong> and you could actually feel the <strong>connection with nature!<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-embed aligncenter is-type-video is-provider-youtube wp-block-embed-youtube wp-embed-aspect-16-9 wp-has-aspect-ratio\"><div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<iframe title=\"Dolphins Around Boat at Kicker Rock - Rebecca Adventure Travel\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/p9Uul5lf-ls?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe>\n<\/div><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 5: Santa Fe \u2013 Barrington Bay<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>During <strong>snorkeling,<\/strong> a <strong>sea lion<\/strong> gave birth to a stillborn and we saw her moving the baby inside and outside the water, doing everything to get the stillborn moving but, unfortunately, without any success. Later, in <strong>South Plaza, <\/strong>we spotted tons of different birds as <strong>frigid birds, tropicbirds, and Galapagos sheerer<\/strong>. This was the beginning of day 6. We also got the chance to do <strong>Kayaking<\/strong> while spotting the <strong>penguins<\/strong> and enjoying the <strong>amazing landscape<\/strong>. <strong>Chinese hat<\/strong> is located next to <strong>Santiago Island<\/strong>, and only 100 years ago there was an eruption at this place, so almost everything on the island is burned by the lava. Golden beach, clear water, penguins, tons of different sharks at the coastline from one to three meters long, a big group of rays, and so much more are found in this <strong>magical place<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 7: Santiago \u2013 James Bay &amp; Rabida<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Three types of crabs -mole crab, ghost crab, and sally lightfoot crab-, different starfish, lava herrings, catching snails, fur seals, and more! We also visited the <strong>famous red beach, Rabida<\/strong>. The&nbsp;island&#8217;s peculiar color is caused by the high contents of<strong> iron oxide in its sands<\/strong>. It was an amazing place to <strong>take photos<\/strong> and appreciate the <strong>beauty of nature.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Day 8: North Seymour<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>On the last day, we went to <strong>North Seymour<\/strong>. This place is&nbsp;mainly populated by <strong>Magnificent Frigatebirds<\/strong>, which nest nearly year-round.&nbsp;Here, you will be able to <strong>observe the wildlife in its purest state<\/strong>. I would highly recommend this boat for <strong>adventurous people<\/strong> who would like to <strong>see the <a href=\"https:\/\/rebeccaadventuretravel.com\/galapagos\/cruises\/last-minute-deals\/\">Galapagos Islands at their purest<\/a><\/strong>.
